The My Disney Experience app is Disney’s latest addition to 21st century technology. With the creation of Magic Bands and Fastpass+, Disney made the My Disney Experience app to help you manage all aspects of your trip. For a lot of park goers, this can be a confusing thing to use. We decided to write this post to help you get the most information about this new app. After reading this, you will be a pro at adjusting your plans right from your phone!
Before your trip, log on to the My Disney Experience website on your computer and link up all magic bands and accounts for the people on your trip. This is not just for family members, but so everyone in your party can be managed on one device. Linking up your accounts allows everyone in your party to make necessary changes and additions to your Fastpass+ and Photopass accounts.
Since Fastpasses are a hot commodity, make sure that you log on and add your first three Fastpasses as soon as you are able. Disney will email you three months in advance to let you know the exact date and time you can claim them. When you log on, you will be able to choose three Fastpasses per day. Even if you decide to park hop, you can still only select three passes per day to begin with. Once you have three passes claimed, you can adjust each individual pass if you choose. These can be changed from the app at any time before or during your trip. Below is a picture of the main home screen of the app. It does not show any plans, but when you have chosen your Fastpasses, they will appear under the “My Plans” heading. It will also show you your dining reservations and anything else that you may have booked in advance. You can change the ride you want or simply the Fastpass time right from your app. After using all three passes, you may visit one of the many Fastpass kiosks located throughout the park to receive one more. In Magic Kingdom, we know of one next to Stitch’s Great Escape, one in Frontierland by Country Bear Jamboree, and one by the Jungle Cruise. There are still more, but those are the ones we remember visiting. A cast member will assist you in adding another Fastpass. You can only get one more as they are available. Once you use that one, you can add another, and the cycle continues that way. You can also get Fastpasses for character meet and greets, but they still count in your three attractions. Fastpasses are also available for shows such as Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, and The Festival of the Lion King. If you pick a Fastpass for a show, you get priority seating and are in a different line as opposed to “stand-by” seating.

Deciding where to eat in the park can be tough, but the app definitely makes this decision easier. By clicking the “Dining” heading at the top, you can view dining options in the park and see their menus and pricing. The dining places at each resort are also available for viewing. Each restaurant will show either $, $$, or $$$ to give you an idea of how expensive it will be. The restaurant’s hours are available, and you can see if it is available with your dining plan or not. To add a dining reservation, click the plus icon at the bottom of the home screen and then click the fork and knife icon. You can choose your dining location and time. These reservations will be added to your plans immediately.
Checking attraction wait times is the most useful part of this app. You no longer have to walk all the way from Space Mountain to Splash Mountain only to realize the wait is 2 hours long. This shows you all the wait times for the park as well as if any attractions are closed. To get to this screen, click the “Attractions” heading at the top of the app’s home screen. If you are unsure where an attraction is located, you can click on it and pull up a map to help you find it. This app can only show you one park’s attractions at a time, so if you want to check another park, click the park’s name on the bottom left of the screen to change to another park. Pictures of the attractions screens are below. To help you keep track of things you want to remember to do, you can add plans such as parade and show times via the hat icon after you click on the plus at the bottom.
At the beginning of your day, make sure you check the character meet and greet times and plan accordingly. A lot of the characters finish in the middle of the day, so if you want to meet a certain character, you need to make sure you catch them when they are available. To check the character’s times, simply click the “Characters” heading at the top of your screen. This section is also park specific, so you have to change the park at the bottom the same way as with the attractions. We are much less familiar with the character’s locations than with the rides, so the map was very useful to us to help us find them. You can check their location the same as you check the rides’ locations. Again, you can book a character Fastpass if you know you definitely want to see someone specific. (If you want to see Anna and Elsa, Fastpasses for Princess Fairytale Hall are HIGHLY recommended!)
On the top right of your app’s home screen, you will see an icon with three horizontal lines. By clicking this, you can access a lot of different information. It will show you the park hours and magic hours, and you can view your profile and plans here as well.
It is also notable to mention that you can’t view your Photopass pictures directly from the app. The pictures do not become available until after your trip, and you must view them via the My Disney Experience website online.
While writing this post, we realized that you can actually purchase tickets to the park via your app! You can do this by clicking the plus sign and then the tickets icon. You can choose how many days you want and the age of the people in your party.
Have fun on your trip, and don't forget to download the My Disney Experience app from the app store!
